6th years Mark Boules and David Dunbar visited Strathclyde University last week to perform experiments for their Advanced Higher Physics course, because they’re too scary for school – the experiments, not Mark and David.
Mark was focusing on recreating Millikan’s Oil Drop Experiment, trying to type results onto his computer while hanging on to an electric generator and peering through a telescope at atomised oil drops.
David’s was using Kater’s Pendulum to accurately determine the gravitational field strength of the Earth. Less acrobatics required apparently, but real skill for staring at a pendulum.
The follow up experiments will take place over the next few weeks to allow our physicists to type up their analyses before the end of March.
