Mass of Chrism

The group who went on pilgrimage to Rome had a reunion when they attended the Mass of Chrism At Motherwell Cathedral. The nineteen 6th year pupils were accompanied by Mrs Mulholland, Mrs Millar and Mr Knighton, along with Father Brian Logue and Father Stephen Miller.

The Mass of Chrism is an important ceremony at which all the priests and bishops of the diocese renew their vows, and the oils used throughout the diocese for baptism, confirmation and the sacrament of the sick, are also blessed.

The ceremony is full of symbolism. The bishop breathes on the oil to symbolise God breathing life into Adam. All the clergy raise their hand in blessing towards the oils.

After the ceremony, the group retreated to Da Claudio’s for Italian food and sea bass (you know who you are… and so do we!)
