Report by Mrs Maguire
Principal Teacher, Mrs Mary Tulley, and Mrs Sharon Maguire from the Support for Learning Department took a group of Upper School ESOL pupils to the Tron Theatre on Saturday 16th February to see ‘Running on the Cracks‘, a new play adapted from Julia Donaldson’s novel.
It was a hard-hitting performance about a teenage run-away, with emphasis on a number of issues relevant to young people today, including emotional abuse and mental health. There was also a cultural dimension, with the main character belonging to an ethnic minority and searching for relatives in Glasgow…a city with which she was not familiar.
Our pupils also attended an after-show workshop with the author, the play’s Director and cast and a representative of the Aberlour Charity for young runaways, which added a great deal to their understanding of the characters in the play and their motivations. Everyone very much enjoyed the experience!
