Christmas Big Free Toy Giveaway Sunday 11th December 2016, Forgewood

To all parents and carers,

Please see the letter below regarding the  toy give away at Forgwood, 11th December 2016.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Christmas Big Free Toy Giveaway Sunday 11th December 2016, Forgewood Community Centre, Motherwell

Please would you be able to inform families in your school who may require support this festive period, that there will be a FREE TOY giveaway on  Sunday the 11th of December.  The event is being held at the Forgewood Community Centre, 2 Dinmont Crescent, Motherwell ML1 3TT. Doors open at midday and close at two pm.

We are a group of friends who want to help those families who find Christmas difficult.  No child should be without something on Christmas morning and no parent should be in debt to bring a smile to their child’s face. Although there are groups that help those in need, they do not always reach every child and family that need their help.  That is why the toy giveaway is open to ALL. That is why we would encourage you to take the time to notify your school community. Councillors Michael Ross and Paul Kelly are both supporting this event.

A Toy Giveaway has already been held in Wishaw this year. An article about the event is available in this week’s Wishaw Press. Many people generously supplied, toys, games, books and even children’s clothes. So with your support, we hope to give more children a Merry Christmas.

In the anticipation of helping more children in Motherwell, we will need to gather more toys, games and books.  Therefore, would you be able to collect used toys etc? We can organize a collection on the 9th of December. The hall is also open for donations between 4-7pm on the 10th. This would be a great event to have your more senior students who are working towards awards (e.g. Caritas) to participate in. If they want to take part or run a toy drive please let me know.

So please spread the word and help us spread some Christmas cheer in 2016.

Yours sincerely

Martine Nolan

Letter 23rd March 2016

Dear Parent/Carer

I am writing to express my thanks for your support during lent as we attempted to raise a great deal of money for Lentern Charities.  I don’t know the full total as yet, but I do know that The Penny Wars raised £650 in one week and our focus on Autism Awareness raised over £1000 last week.  Pupils have been donating monies to the “Wee Boxes” all during Lent.  As well as this, we have had a sponsored 24 hour Fast and a number of other fund raising activities.  I will inform you of the total amount raised after Easter.

As you know, Easter is early this year and we finish up on Thursday at 3.15pm for the long weekend, incorporating Good Friday as well as Easter Monday.  All pupils return to school on Tuesday 29th March.  Pupils should be in attendance until Friday 1st April.  The school will close at 2.30pm on that day.  Pupils should not leave earlier than 2.30pm.

Our Easter School for pupils sitting exams begins on Monday 4th April for 2 days.  The school re-opens for all on Monday 18th April 2016.

If you are the parent/carer of a pupil sitting exams, could you please ensure that their time is spent profitably studying, particularly during the two week holiday.  The results of pupils who put in a great deal of effort will certainly be improved upon.  We have a very good track record in the Nationals, Highers and Advanced Highers and I am sure that pupils this year will perform very well indeed.  I wish them every success in the exams ahead.

Dates of school closures:

  • Closes Thursday 24th March at 3.15pm
  • Reopens Tuesday 29th March at 8:50am
  • Closes Friday 1st April at 2:30pm
  • Re-opens Monday 18th April at 8:50am

SQA exams begin Thursday 5th May.

I hope you have a very enjoyable weekend with your family.

Yours sincerely,

Kathleen Sinclair

Letter from Mrs Sinclair

Dear Parent/Carer

We are almost at the end of a very busy but fruitful term. The school Christmas parties take place this week and our Christmas concert promises to be a “sell-out” on Friday.

Thank you very much for all of your support and generosity throughout the year. On Friday we propose to have a “Christmas Jumper Day”. If your child has a Christmas jumper and would like to participate we are asking for a donation of £1 on Friday. The donations will go to “Save the Children” and Children’s Cancer Charity as we think of a young pupil in a local school recently diagnosed. Other items of school uniform should be worn. It is not a non-uniform day. (If your child does not have a Christmas jumper please do not go out to buy a jumper at this very expensive time of year).

On a separate note the school is open as normal on Monday and we close on Tuesday 22nd December at 2:30pm. I hope that you have a lovely time at Christmas with your family.

School will re-open on Wednesday 6th January at 8:50am.

Merry Christmas

Mrs K Sinclair
