OLHS Sports Day

OLHS Sports Day is on Thursday 25th May [edit: this has now been changed to Wednesday 24th may].

Pupils will compete in their house groups in the following events: 100m sprint, 400m, 800m, Long Jump, High Jump, Javelin, Shot Put, Relay and Tug of War.  PE Department staff will be coming round RE classes to sign pupils up for the various events.  We are looking for two boys and two girls from each house group to compete in each of the individual events and the relay and ten pupils from each house group to compete in the tug of war.

All pupils will be involved in sports day in some way.  Last year was a great success so we are looking for the same enthusiasm from everyone.

St Andrew’s Day 2016

A big thank you to everyone to took part in events to celebrate St Andrew’s Day. Over £800 was raised for to St Andrew’s Hospice. Well done to Taylor Gilfillan on her fabulous dancing and to Isabel Evans on her fabulous baking! A highlight was seeing one of our S1 pupil’s face light up when “talking bagpipes” with our wonderful piper, Mrs Connor’s dad. The young apprentice left the master promising to practise his pipes really hard and play them for us at the coffee morning next year.

Inter-house Competition

The S6 Caritas group have organised a series of inter-house events which begin 12th September.  For one week, pupils from each House will battle to gain the title of ‘Winning House’ for the whole year.

The events are as follows:

  • Art re-design house board (S1-S4)
  • Logic Test (S1-S6)
  • Social subjects quiz (S3- S5)
  • Spelling Bee (S1-S6)
  • Modern Languages Treasure Hunt (S1 only)
  • European Bake- off (S6 only)
  • Assault Course (S1-S6)

The winning House from each event will be the one which gains the most points.  However, pupils can also gain points for their House by giving to a charity- nominated by their own House- during R.E.

We look forward to celebrating the many gifts and talents of the pupils at OLHS, whilst raising money for charity, as part of our faith mission.

Sports Day 2016

The Lifestyle Development Faculty is organising a Sports Day on Thursday 26th May.  Pupils will compete in their House groups resulting in an overall winning house. The events will take place on the bottom ash field for the duration of the school day.

Lists of participants and events have been posted in the PE department and in the Zone.  Pupils should check these lists to ensure they know what event they will be participating in. All pupils will be taking part in some way so remember your PE kit!

As this will be a non-uniform day, pupils will pay £1, which will go towards the Malawi First Aid Appeal.  There will also be various stalls to help with fund raising, offering refreshments, home baking and other surprises!  We are looking forward to an action packed, fun filled and exciting day!

St Andrew’s Day 2015

Report by Mrs Connor

St Andrew’s Day was marked this year with a number of events which were organised by Mrs Connor and the pupils of Andrew House.

A whole school “Tartan Day” was held on Friday 27th November with pupils being asked to donate £1 to be allowed to have no uniform and Tartan themed clothing on. On Monday 30th there was a staff coffee morning at interval with former pupil  Michael Clark entertaining us with his bagpipes. A  “Scots Corner” stall was set up for pupils at lunchtime where they could buy tartan ribbons, bows as well as Scotland tattoo’s and cupcakes.

The events were enjoyed by all with the proceeds being donated to St Andrew’s Hospice.

St Andrew’s Day

Report from Mrs Connor

Friday 27th November will be Tartan Day, a whole school non-uniform day with participating pupils asked to wear tartan or Scottish-themed clothing. Pupils are being asked to donate £1 and a donation for our Christmas Fair raffle. No tins please!

Monday 30th November is St Andrew’s Day, and former pupil, Michael Clark will returning to pipe for the staff coffee morning. A Scots Corner stall will be set up in The Zone at lunchtime for pupils to purchase tartan ribbons, cupcakes and receive tattoos and face painting. All money raised will be donated to St Andrew’s Hospice.

Tartan Day 2014

Report from Mrs Connor

Pupils and staff celebrated St Andrew’s Day with a whole school “Tartan Day”. Pupils were allowed to come to school out of uniform and were asked to wear something tartan or Scottish. The school was very colourful with tartan kilts, trousers, tops, tammies etc on parade. They were asked to donate £1 to St Andrew’s Hospice for this privilege. The event was organised by Andrew House pupils and Mrs Connor.

As well as Tartan Day there were other events around the school including the sale of tartan bows and ribbons. A staff coffee morning took place at interval with Michael Clark (Andrew House Prefect) playing the bagpipes and Emma Kirkwood and Declan Murray from 1A singing Loch Lomond. During lunchtime a “Scots Corner” was set up, selling saltire cupcakes, tattoos and face painting. Again, all proceeds going to St Andrew’s Hospice. The Maths Department even got in on the act by delivering lessons on designing your own tartan. A great day was had by all.

The final total of money isn’t in yet but will be well over £500.

St Andrew’s non- uniform day

By KK

Our Lady’s High School are holding a tartan day for all pupils and staff on the 28th of November. Pupils only have to pay £1 and all the money raised on the day will go to St Andrew’s Hospice. The money will be be raised by face painting, selling tartan bows and a bake sale. I hope it will be a great success! I also hope that the whole school will have a great time.

Retreats

Report by Miss McGinness

All S1 Andrew House Pupils were invited to Father King’s parish on Monday 6th of October to take part in a retreat.

Father King delivered all the activities of the day which began with Mass in the morning. Father King then spent time reflecting on the Parable of the Talents and pupils shared with each other the talents that they had been blessed with. The day ended with a healing service for the whole class.

It was a fantastic day, enjoyed by all! Some of the S6 Caritas students were present to support the pupils throughout their day. Father King will welcome all S1 Columba house on the 20th of October and then Margaret and Sinclair house on the 10th of November.

Planning for university

Fifth & Sixth Year pupils aiming for a university course should sign up for an Open Day of their choice.

UCAS applications began today in the Library with Andrew House. Columba pupils will register tomorrow (Thursday), Margaret on Friday, and Sinclair on Monday. There will be a chance for anyone who missed out first time around to come along on Tuesday. The UCAS application form is very detailed and takes several hours to complete, so the earlier pupils make a start, the better.

Our Careers Advisor, Ruth Robertson, will also be available on Mondays and Fridays in the Library at lunchtime for anyone who wants advice or even just a guide to their options after school.

St Andrew’s Day

Andrew House pupils organised a coffee morning with pipers and entertainment to celebrate St Andrew’s Day today.

Andrew House also sold tartan ribbons and badges with all proceeds to St Andrew’s Hospice.

Our favourite pipers, Mr Jim Hughes and Michael Clark (S4) played to entertain the staff, who happily munched away on oatcakes, shortbread, fruit cake, mince pies and saltire empire biscuits, made by the very lovely Mrs Evans. Thanks also to Tunnocks who donated teacakes and caramel wafers for the event.
