Developing the Young Workforce

S4/5 Parents’ Information Evening, 21st February 2017

From Mrs Donnachie, DHT S5/6

S4/5 Parents’ Information evening,
Tuesday 21st February 2017,
7pm, School Theatre

This evening will give you information about how to help your child/children over the weeks ahead as they prepare to move from S4 to S5 and S5 to S6 and provide you with important dates in relation to the SQA. As well as this the event will give you the opportunity to hear about the subject choices that will be available to your son/daughter from next session as well as the opportunity to ask questions.

In addition, Mrs Zambonini will give a presentation on Developing The Young Workforce which is a government strategy to help ensure that all young people leave school with a career path in place.

Ruth Robertson, our Careers Adviser, will also give information about Skills Development Scotland’s role in this strategy. Ruth is also available in school every Monday, Tuesday and Friday for one to one appointments; her role along with the pupil support team is key to ensuring that your son/daughter makes the correct subject choices as they progress in their school career.

I hope you can make this event and I look forward to welcoming you on the evening.

EMA update

The Scottish Government has informed local authorities of changes to the income thresholds used in assessing EMA applications which will take effect from 1 January 2016.  These changes will also affect students’ eligibility for “provisional” awards.

Amended application forms and advertising posters are currently being prepared and supplies will be sent to all schools as they become available.

Parents’ evenings for 3rd and 4th year will be held this term. This provides the perfect opportunity for parents and carers to discuss pupils’ progress with teaching staff as the SQA exams approach.

Reports have now been issued to S3 in advance of the Parents’ Evening on Wednesday 28th January (4-6pm) and will be handed out tomorrow to 4th year in preparation for Thursday 5th February (4-6pm).

PTA meeting

The PTA’s latest meeting welcomed a number of new members, and made plans for several events over the coming months.

A quiz night is planned for some time in October, with a singalong closer to Christmas and a January ceilidh.

Retiring members, Frances McDevitt and Carol Davis both received flowers and a rosary as thanks for all of their hard work with the PTA over the previous years.
