Thanks to parents, carers and friends of the school who attended the Quiz Night on Friday 17th February. It was a very good night and everyone who came along enjoyed it. The PTA raised £577 for our school, all of which will benefit our pupils directly. A big thank you must go to the members of our PTA for another successful venture!
S2 are working hard on a writing competition organised by St Andrew’s University. The aim of the competition is to put Art into STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Pupils have to link their Science and English learning by researching their favourite Scottish scientist and using the information to write a creative piece.
So far, we have been entertained by essays on Alexander Graham Bell, Alexander Fleming and John Logie Baird. Mrs Millar, Mrs Sinclair, Mrs Macfadyen and Mr McKendrick will judge the essays and choose the best two to represent the school. The overall winner will receive a voucher for £50 and the four runners-up £25. Good luck everyone!
Meanwhile, all of S1 were presented with their Pocket Literacy Guide, kindly bought for them by the PTA. These handy books contain rules for punctuation, grammar and spelling, as well as hints for writing in different subject areas. We know that S1 will put these guides to good use in all their subjects.

The PTA, along with Bothwellpark High, organised a very successful race night on Friday 29th October in St Bernadette’s Church hall. About 120 parents and friends of both schools enjoyed a great event and raised almost £3000 which will be shared between the schools.
Mr Brian Gilmour, Bothwellpark’s Depute Head, did a great deal of the planning along with OLHS PTA. Each race was sponsored and horses and jockeys sold in advance of the night and there were a large number of donations from parents and friends for the raffle.
Both schools would like to thank all those who donated or came along to raise such a marvellous sum of money.
The Breakfast Club had an event to tie in with both World Mental Health Day and National Poetry Day.
Breakfast consisted of healthy Scottish foods like oatcakes and locally produced cheese, honey and jam. Pupils showed a presentation about how a healthy diet benefits your mental health, and distributed poems about food around the tables in the Citizens’ Cafe.
Mrs McShannon from the OLHS PTA was invited to join the group for breakfast as thanks for her kind donation of goodies.
