Between 9:00am and 12.00pm on Wednesday 9th August subject choice interviews will be held for those pupils who intend returning for a fifth or sixth year in session 2017/2018 and need to change a subject, NOT a level.

It will be assumed that pupils who do not attend for interview will be making no changes to subject/courses that were chosen in June.

As there are major repairs being carried out in the school and there is restricted access within the building, please note the following appointment times:

  • For Surnames A – G inclusive please arrive at the school at 9 a.m. PROMPT
  • For Surnames H – M (including Mac, Mc) please arrive at 10 a.m. PROMPT
  • For Surnames N – Z inclusive please arrive at the school at 11 a.m. PROMPT

Pupils should enter via the Middle door in the yard area, sign in on arrival and stay in THE ZONE.  Please do not attempt to go to any other area in the school or enter by another door.  Staff will be available to assist you on arrival.  Your co-operation in this would be greatly appreciated.

Easter School

Pupils from S4-S6 came along to our Easter School for some extra study and assistance in a relaxed atmosphere before the SQA exams begin in May.

Pupils were also treated to lunch on both days – can’t study on an empty stomach.

Senior Prelims

Fifth and Sixth Year prelims finished on Monday 30th January.  Thanks to Mr Jimmy Keenan and his team of invigilators for their hard work and support of our young people during this stressful time – the pupils really appreciated the calm atmosphere the invigilators created.

Now the hard work really starts for all of our SQA candidates. Many of the subjects being studied contain a coursework element: performance, portfolio, investigation, extended essay or dissertation. Many marks can be gained by producing good course work and performing well in practical work, so it is really important that pupils, encouraged and supported by their teachers and parents, put in as much effort as possible between now and the end of March, when most of this coursework has to be submitted.

We look forward to welcoming Mr Keenan and his team in early May for the start of the SQA diet.

SQA success

From Mrs Sinclair

Congratulations to all pupils who performed exceptionally well in the National Qualifications from National 4 to Advanced Higher.

2016_0824_1098_sqaAs

This year pupils studied seven subjects in fourth year for the first time.  Eleven of our students achieved straight As in all subjects undertaken at National 5 Level. Rhodri Bevan, Damian Bonnar, Molly Cuthbert, Emma Dolan, Hannah Duddy, Piroska Horvath, Kelsey Kearney, Dearbhla McCabe, Rebecca McQuaid, Marta Pradzynska and Patrick Quinn.  Quite an achievement and perhaps even more so for Marta and Piroska when English is their second language.

Three of our students achieved straight As in their 5 Highers: Liam McCafferty, Michael McKenna and Philip Quither.  Congratulations too must go to Beth Cunningham who has left the school achieving Eight As at National 5, Five As at Higher and Three A Band Advanced Highers.  Beth is going on to study Dentistry.

This is just a small sample of the excellent attainment this year:

  • 49% of our Fourth Year achieved at least five National 5 Awards
  • 44% (based on S4 roll) achieved at least three Highers in Fifth Year
  • 72% (based on S4 roll) achieved at least one Higher
  • 18.4% achieved five Highers in Fifth Year.

These are our best Fifth Year results ever and we are very proud of our students.
